Lay the ruler down once. Slits every 1/2" let you cut strip after strip without sliding it or lining up again. On the XL that is up to eight 2-1/2" strips, or fourteen 1-1/2", from one placement. The non-slip grip keeps it where you put it.
How to use the Stripology XL

Gudrun Erla grew up in Selfoss, Iceland, taught PE, and found quilting at 23. In 2000 she opened Bót.is, Iceland's first online quilt shop, with weekly classes and a club of more than 250 quilters from across the country.
Her customers wanted patterns, so she wrote them in Icelandic. Soon she was selling them in the US, and in 2003 the family moved to Minnesota.
Gudrun thinks and designs geometrically, from the ruler out. That way of cutting became Stripology, and she unveiled the first Stripology ruler at a quilt trade show in Houston.
One ruler grew into a whole way of quilting: four rulers, the books and patterns built around them, kits and a case to carry it all, a certification course for Stripology instructors, and partner shops that teach it. Gudrun has taught it across the US, in Canada, in Iceland and all over Europe, and today she teaches quilters around the world online, in virtual retreats and live shows.

Shop partners
Independent quilt shops that teach Stripology and carry the rulers. Take a class, see the rulers in person, and shop local.
Teach it
Quilters who love Stripology go on to teach it. Certified Stripology Instructors were taught by Gudrun, and teach in shops, guilds and events.
Start with the XL, the workhorse. Add the Squared for smaller tables, classes and travel, the Squared MINI for smaller blocks, and the Quarters MINI for half-square triangles and flying geese. Piece mostly small blocks? A MINI may be the better first ruler. Compare all four rulers
Any rotary cutter with a blade of 45mm or larger. Cutters you press down to expose the blade may not work with the slits.
On the XL and Squared, use the charts in the Master Your Stripology Rulers book, or our free 1/4" cutting chart (PDF). The Squared MINI has a turn-around feature for 1/4" sizes, and the Quarters MINI has 1/4" slits built in.
Yes. Every ruler has a free lesson on this page.
The XL comes with illustrated step-by-step instructions and a QR code to the how-to video.
