Before there was GE Designs, before there were Stripology rulers or quilting retreats, there was just Gudrun in a spare room in Selfoss, Iceland. She was surrounded by fabric, ideas, and a lot of energy.

Gudrun grew up in a very active, athletic household. She actually studied to become a physical education instructor. But somewhere along the way, she caught the quilting bug after taking a class, and that was it. None of her friends quilted, but Gudrun had grown up around traditional handwork. Her family was full of knitters and crocheters. Quilting was a natural extension of the creativity and craft she’d always been surrounded by.

If you’ve followed GE Designs for a while, you know that quilting has always been about more than just fabric and stitches, it’s about joy, trust, and community. That’s exactly why we’re so excited to finally open the doors to GEasy Longarm Services.

For years, Gudrun has been asked, “Do you ever offer quilting services?” After all, we longarm quilt all of our own samples and projects here at GE Designs. But one thing always held her back: she wanted the process to feel different from what’s out there now.

Too often, longarming feels like a mystery—pricing that’s hard to understand, turnaround times that aren’t clear, and a lack of updates that leave quilters wondering where their project stands. As someone who has spent her career designing tools and patterns to make quilting easier, faster, and more joyful, Gudrun knew there had to be a better way.

That’s how GEasy Longarm Services was born.
